Women less likely to pass driving tests than men

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/dec/03/black-women-far-less-likely-than-white-men-to-pass-driving-tests

A spokesperson for the Women’s Equality party said: “The female pass rate has been lower than the male pass rate for many years now. Yet driving schools keep insisting that candidates are not judged on anything other than their driving ability. Instead of burying their heads in the sand, they should consider how the sex and race of driving instructors might play a role, along with pervasive stereotypes. That would give them a chance to counter any unconscious bias that exists.”

Khan dismissed this and pointed out that female drivers were less likely to be involved in road accidents than men (they accounted for only a third of accidents in 2016).

What is the proportion of women : men drivers though?

xDiggy - 03 Dec 2018 12:13:23 (#2 of 113)

Haha I hadn't spotted that. While it's probably true that female drivers are involved in fewer accidents per mile driven than men, that's a meaningless stat as quoted.

One might wildly speculate that the same psychological factors which make men more likely on average to pass their test make them more likely to crash after doing so.

Good point.

We need more detail on why candidates fail and can’t assume that the higher male pass rate is fair.”

If you're carrying out a statistical study, that's precisely what you'd assume. It's called the null hypothesis. But if you're just writing a Grain wail-piece, all together now...

Straight, white cis male privilege!

"Women less likely to pass driving tests than men"

Easily fixed. Just identify as a man while taking the test.

I think they used to but didn't it get banned because of equality rules?
