I however am the proud owner of 10 points.

I just saw the headline in the Heil, in the corner shop, which (unsurprisingly) says exactly the same thing. Obviously, rather than have a set of universal ground-rules for legal aid, it would be much better if the decision was made based on the likeability or assumed guilt of the defendant.

If she wins, which she probably will, the government is the problem.

dottie30 - 15 Apr 2019 19:24:53 (#5 of 268)

She's getting legal aid because the state has chosen - without due process - to administer an arbitrary punishment at the whim of a politician. It's not the fucking same as divorce.

Winner - 15 Apr 2019 19:28:41 (#6 of 268)

As far as we know she hasn’t punched anyone, not even her spouse. So I think she deserves legal aid.

Whereas in a divorce one party gets to rid themselves of the other party who may well not be able to afford any legal representation.

Ms Begum did voluntarily go to join an organisation which is fighting western governments - including acts of terrorism.

Snarlygog - 15 Apr 2019 19:37:14 (#8 of 268)

Ms Begum was claased as a child at the time and may be a victim of sex crimes.

Ms Begum was a child who was groomed and then quite possibly indoctrinated into the ISIS death cult. You are just a wife elbowing twatbadger.

TrouserFreak - 15 Apr 2019 19:52:04 (#10 of 268)

I wonder if she was groomed into the Hisbah & enforcing morality laws on other women.

It's a grim reality that British 'legal professionals' can apply for and receive legal aid for someone who belonged to a totalitarian & supremacist death cult whilst the victims of said group can go and whistle.

I wonder if there were many Brits so enthusiastic in supporting a sympathetic outcome for Irma Grese? Although she was a member of a different totalitarian & supremacist death cult so different self-image outcomes apply.

GreenFuture - 15 Apr 2019 22:13:29 (#11 of 268)

Oh look. She's back in the spotlight for the 2 Minute Hate.

The bonus is that this episode can be used to slur Legal Aid, which has already been battered by tories, who detest justice almost as much as they support violent Islamic filth. Not trivial pawns like her of course. She hasn't bombed buses of schoolkids or important stuff like that.

Is it a reality? a) has she been confirmed to receive the legal aid? and b) who are the comparable victims i.e. British victims of IS who "can go whistle" when applying for legal aid?

bignosebignose - 15 Apr 2019 22:32:48 (#13 of 268)

Bonus point for explaining why the people representing her aren't real legal professionals, if you're feeling daring.

widenation - 15 Apr 2019 22:52:34 (#14 of 268)

People have been frothing at the mouth over this on social media. Forgetting about ISIS for the moment, if a 15-year-old UK kid citizen had gone off to assist/protest/fight in South Africa during the Thatcher years, how would that have been dealt with? If he/she was on the side of the ANC - then as a terroist... on the side of Apartheid S.Africa - then as an anti-terrorist fighter I assume. Either way, they'd rightfully be entitled to legal aid if their citizenship was revoked.

bossab2 - 15 Apr 2019 23:14:02 (#15 of 268)

Yet lots of people who haven't gone off to join a terrorist organisation are denied legal aid...

widenation - 15 Apr 2019 23:24:07 (#16 of 268)

True - so you think it should be restricted further as a result?

Tadagee - 15 Apr 2019 23:24:09 (#17 of 268)

Bossab venting his inner gammon.

carterbrandon - 15 Apr 2019 23:27:02 (#18 of 268)

They come over 'ere, don't they boss? Getting their big tellies paid for by the social. And when they get arrested for cooking Her Majesty's swans on a bonfire down the recreation ground, they just laugh in the copper's face and say "Human Rights!".

She has had her citizenship revoked. An extreme act which was done with no judicial oversight. It was done by a politician. In other words, the executive decided to act arbitrarily. If you can't fucking see why this should be subject to appeal WITH legal aid (which of course goes to her legal team - not to her); you need a crash course in what liberty is.

HouseOfLametta - 16 Apr 2019 07:02:14 (#20 of 268)

She wasn’t a “fighter” was she?
