A Spiked article? Down with!

darkhorse - 22 Apr 2019 16:30:46 (#2 of 375)

Also, a bit cheeky one of those Living Marxism twats grumbling about "cults".

'climate-change alarmism is becoming ever stranger, borderline religious, obsessed with doomsday prophecies'

Heh. Only the other day climate expert Julia Hartley-Brewer was confidently declaring that Sir David Attenborough was WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING.

How do you sound in Swedish O'Neill?

The monotone voice.

col2001 - 22 Apr 2019 16:54:50 (#5 of 375)

Good old shoot-the-messenger.

Always works to change the subject.

“Cult” has tabloid-like appeal for being a short word with strong and powerful connotations.

As such, it’s getting over-used in lazy click bait titles that the likes of Spiked aim to specialise in. I appreciate that getting attention is hard as nails when there’s so much content competing.

GT is a fairly popular person who got a bit of notoriety via an important message (which isn’t at all new) and being young and at the start of the current wave of said message.

Solid wow.

Must be a CULT right? If you have no clue what an actual cult is.

Years ago, in a human geography module, I saw an interview with a chap from what I'll call the Possiblist Tendency. He thought that it was daftvto worry about rising population because it meant that more people would be available to think our way out of problems.

Brendan O'Neill strikes me of being of that tendency - we will always find more resources or think of a replacement. It's true we haven't reached peak oil and other disasters haven't come to pass but...but...

...where has the snow and where have all the insects gone?

THUNBERG

machiavelli - 22 Apr 2019 17:33:56 (#9 of 375)

Call that a cult? This is a Cult.

Où sont les neiges et les abeilles d'antan?

Attenborough is part of the cult, and he has nobbled our DEAR QUEEN.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiFNWkMGUL0

"The Queen is genuinely concerned about climate change."

FleurDuMal - 22 Apr 2019 17:51:56 (#12 of 375)

That wouldn’t surprise me. I know Charles has been concerned for some time.

bossab2 - 22 Apr 2019 17:58:36 (#13 of 375)

The IPCC predicted all this 25 years ago.

carterbrandon - 22 Apr 2019 18:21:35 (#14 of 375)

He thought that it was daftvto worry about rising population because it meant that more people would be available to think our way out of problems.

Haha! Did he consider the possibility that they might think us into new ones?

like this guy - Thomas Midgley Jr, who managed to dream up more ways to threaten human survival than any other scientist. He's credited with the idea to put lead in petrol, and use of the refrigerant (Freon-12) which nearly got rid of the ozone layer.

I remember him off QI.

Brendan O'Neill strikes me of being of that tendency

I thought the main thesis of his articles was “A left-wing person is doing something. Here are my reasons why they should stop.”

browserbutton - 22 Apr 2019 19:10:04 (#18 of 375)

"Saving the planet? Sounds like a REMOANER conspiracy!"

BasilSeal - 22 Apr 2019 19:25:25 (#19 of 375)

Spiked are such a bunch of dreary contrary cunts.

machiavelli - 22 Apr 2019 19:43:12 (#20 of 375)

I thought the main thesis of his articles was “A left-wing person is doing something. Here are my reasons why they should stop.”

It's more that environmentalism is "anti-human" and that proponents are smug westerners who want to deny developing countries the same goodies as we've had.
