CULTURAL APPROPRIATION: Sikh fury as Gucci models wear TURBANS on the catwalk

Gucci has been criticised for selling a headpiece resembling a turban as a backlash grows on social media where users have accused the fashion house of being CULTURALLY INSENSITIVE towards SIKHS.

The item, named the Indy Full Turban, came to the attention of critics when it appeared on e-commerce sites at a jaw-dropping £790, prompting the Sikh Coalition to tweet that the turban is “not a fashion accessory, but a sacred religious article of faith”.

Turbans on women were fashionable in the 18th century, I believe.

Gucci should have been warned.

I see that's in the Guardian story, too. One should read links before posting.

One, these items would simply mark out the wearer as a rich idiot.

Two, what kind of grown adult allows their honour to be represented by their headgear?

CarlosFandango - 18 May 2019 13:29:14 (#5 of 39)

Quite right too.

When the gorgeous Mme Fandango emerges from the bathroom, her stunning, statuesque form back-lit by a hundred or so scented candles, and naked save for a towel coiled high upon her head, I say

Oi! No! Less of the cultural appropriation... Get yer knickers on and take the bloody bins aht...

lammaMia - 18 May 2019 14:42:51 (#6 of 39)

This is cultural appropriation of the worst kind! Gucci, can you send bars of gold to the Amritsar temple to alleviate this suffering? It's pragmatic not to enrage people who consist of burly, hairy men with long beards and scabbards, FFS.

What's the etiquette if I want to see and feel a Sikh male's scabbard?

A total bell end, at the very least.

Sikhs are a GBOL.

There: I said it.

Sikhs came to provide aid to the flooding in Somerset, provided more immediate aid than the pigs head bothering twat Cameron and Rees-Mogg.

Sikh and you shall find. A punch in the face, but tahtz showbiz.

carterbrandon - 18 May 2019 20:36:53 (#11 of 39)

No religious/social group is free from arsiness; I can't think of *one* that deserves a blanket 'GBOL'.

Sikhs say you should not carry a dagger!

Ginmonkey - 18 May 2019 20:52:49 (#14 of 39)

Many observant Sheiks will just wear a pin badge or broach in the shape of a dagger.

That'll scare'm

Outrage as Nikita Dragun culturally appropriates BRAIDS and REFUSES to apologise!

"The beauty YouTuber was accused of "cultural appropriation" by some and even of being "anti black" by others for wearing a hairstyle not associated with her own race."

for wearing a hairstyle not associated with her own race."

Is there a list we can pick potential styles from?

As a non black person I understand shouldn't wear braids or dreads but I'm pretty sure as a Jew I can wear a Jewfro.

Can I get a badge made so no one challenges me when they see me out and about with my sweet fro?

Maybe some sort of star....a yello....wait, maybe not.

Nikita Dragun (née Nguyen) is an American.

Sounds like she is from a Vietnamese background. Do they wear braids?
