Calls for a 'Straight Pride Parade' cause stir

A lively discussion has kicked off on Twitter over the merits of straight people having their own Pride events.

A plan by a group in Boston, US, to hold a '"straight pride" march in August has sparked more than 45,000 tweets in the last 24 hours.

The group - Super Happy Fun America - has applied to the city government to hold their march, and approval is currently pending.

Super Happy Fun America? Sounds a little bit Super Adventure Club* if you ask me.

Point and laugh at the incels here.

Groan! This is where oppression olympics ends up - the only way to be on top is to be the most victimised, so the top dogs start whining and pretending that hey - we're oppressed too!

Dementor - 06 Jun 2019 08:36:16 (#3 of 94)

I object to this redefining of the word "pride"!

machiavelli - 06 Jun 2019 08:39:16 (#4 of 94)

"Straight pride" is nonsensical - Gay Pride, IIRC, was so named because gay people had historically been made to hide themselves. Straights have never had to do that.

nemo75 - 06 Jun 2019 08:44:16 (#5 of 94)

Meh. Let them get on with it.

TrouserFreak - 06 Jun 2019 08:45:12 (#6 of 94)

Where do people get the energy for all this?

nemo75 - 06 Jun 2019 08:45:51 (#7 of 94)

Some of us are naturally fabulous, the others have to fake it.

Dementor - 06 Jun 2019 08:48:00 (#8 of 94)

Let's be honest, the 'narrative thrust' of any such march will indirect discrimination against gay people - it's a negative event, not one of genuine celebration.

GreenFuture - 06 Jun 2019 08:51:44 (#9 of 94)

It would get the incels out of their parents basements for the afternoon.

Delighted_User - 06 Jun 2019 08:52:03 (#10 of 94)

How many people do you think will turn up? I wouldn't even be sure they really intend to hold a march, since getting turned down and then being able to bleat about discrimination would probably suit the so-called organisers more than a turnout of half a dozen saddos.

GyratingTrampoline - 06 Jun 2019 08:53:26 (#11 of 94)

It's a bit like "all lives matter"

It's a bit "all lives matter"

It's definitely the usual suspects. Angry confused white men.

Ricolas - 06 Jun 2019 08:56:33 (#13 of 94)

Super Happy Fun America sounds like the gayest thing ever.

Delighted_User - 06 Jun 2019 08:57:25 (#14 of 94)

"We're here, we're straight, we'll never find a mate"

nemo75 - 06 Jun 2019 08:58:51 (#15 of 94)

Exactly. Denying them makes a story.

CaptainBlack - 06 Jun 2019 08:59:12 (#16 of 94)

“We shall over-compensate”.

Dementor - 06 Jun 2019 09:02:28 (#17 of 94)

"Straight people are an oppressed majority."

Hmm. I guess ... If you think being obliged to be tolerant is a form of oppression.

Delighted_User - 06 Jun 2019 09:12:20 (#18 of 94)

It would be fascinating to find out what they actually think it means.

It sounds like something on a Japanese t-shirt of the 80s.

Or something in Japanese on a Superdry one now.

And about 4-5 will show up
