9am Happy Hours...up or down with this sort of thing?

'Cheap pints and good spirits' - The pub with a 9am happy hour

It's just gone nine o'clock on a Friday morning. Most people have poured themselves a coffee at work as they try to get through the last day of the week.

At Uptown Bar in Great Yarmouth, however, it's happy hour - the music is on and the pints are flowing.

Mick, who didn't want to give his surname, is one of the punters who takes full advantage of the £1.90 pints of lager. "I love the atmosphere in here and it's great to catch up with my mates," he said. "The pints are cheap and everyone is in good spirits."

The punters look a picture of health.

I think that's fair enough -- people who live in a dangerous town are feeling vulnerable, and want to get their drinking in early before the yobs awake.

Good old Yarmouth.

Starting a light drinking session at 9 is reasonable enough for those who rise very early, say 5 am in the summer months. I'd like that sort of routine but currently work a late shift and don't get home until 11pm.

It's nice to have a pint if you've been working all night.

I had cocktails for breakfast the other day. A lot of pubs have cheap beer as general prices anyway.

Hang on, Mick doesn't want to give his surname but is happy to have his photo in it?

Is he pissed or someth...

oh.

Hahahaha. #7 When I was interviewing students about loans for the Sunderland Echo once, they were all happy to talk about debt. One claimed she owed £10000 (I didn't check with the student loan company about this I must admit) but she wasn't happy to have her photo in the newspaper but quite happy to tell me she owed that much money.

Have the JTT alcoholics just outed themselves?

9 to 11am happy hour? Fuck me.

I've never been to Great Yarmouth. One of my parent's friends daughter's, her Dad was from Norfolk. He's canny but rubbish - I don't think she's seen him for years.

It feels like somewhere I should go, especially if they have happy hours at 9am.

#7 - photos are slightly less Google-able.

It has (or certainly had) the UK's highest rate of STI infections and intravenous drug users.

Reports of altercations in Great Yarmouth/Lowestoft often seem to involve harpoon guns/crossbows etc.

Which side of the Lowestoft/Great Yarmouth divide was Snazz on?

RosyLovelady - 13 Aug 2019 12:50:03 (#19 of 35)

There used to be a fab roller coaster at Great Yarmouth.

#15 - you need the photo to start with, though.

Since he's gone 70, I don't suppose he's actually worrying about future employment prospects, though.
