Alarm as scientists say we must turn CANNIBAL to solve the climate crisis

Previously only practised by primitive tribesmen in remote locations, boffins at the Swedish University of Stockholm believe CANNIBALISM could be a genuine solution to climate change and say that we must "awaken the idea" of eating human flesh in the future.

Worked for cows pretty well.

"Kuru, or laughing death"

crabbyoldbat - 06 Sep 2019 15:21:33 (#3 of 68)

Ach, who doesn't love a bit of Soylent Green?

Agaliarept - 06 Sep 2019 15:54:12 (#4 of 68)

There are certain humans I could imagine eating but then others I wouldn't handle without gloves let alone eat.

Will we get biogs and pictures with our meal so we know we aren't eating someone who looked like they don't wash properly?

I can't help wondering if there isn't something wrong with this story. The only reportage I can find of it is on nutter right-wing sites, which add comments to the effect of isn't this just what you would expect from left-wing Sweden, where they're all PC atheists who believe in climate change.

I can't help feeling that something might have been distorted somewhere.

Professor Magnus Söderlund looks a bit like Professor Jordan Peterson, he of the heavy meat-eating diet. Suspicious.

wickeltisch - 06 Sep 2019 16:18:58 (#7 of 68)

What's new about it? Swift suggested something similar way back in 1729. Only he suggested eating children, Söderlund probably thought of eating humans who had died of natural causes before, and they would most probably be old and tough.

bailliegillies - 06 Sep 2019 17:06:09 (#8 of 68)

I'd have thought that given human diet the meat would be bloody awful and uneatable.

The buttocks are ok, you can cut strips and dry them like jerky.

tasselhoff - 06 Sep 2019 17:07:53 (#10 of 68)

As they say, "you are what you eat". So nowt wrong with cannibalism. I ain't no darned Brussels sprout.

wickeltisch - 06 Sep 2019 17:11:30 (#11 of 68)

I wouldn't like to eat an English person who's lived on Marmite and baked beans. I'd prefer an Italian instead.

bailliegillies - 06 Sep 2019 17:12:53 (#12 of 68)

No way am I going to eat anyone who's stuffed themselves with MacDonalds, booze and fags.

....isn't this just what you would expect from left-wing Sweden, where they're all PC atheist...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you've never been to Sweden?

tasselhoff - 06 Sep 2019 23:26:00 (#15 of 68)

They're not as puritanical as Norwegians.

SinnerBoy - 06 Sep 2019 23:30:57 (#16 of 68)

Most Noggies aren't, but the ones who are... I worked on a ship, where the entire crew were from Eidesvik.

I wondered why none of them would talk to me and only ever glowered.

A female colleague explained to me that they thought that I was more or less the Devil incarnate!

CarlosFandango - 06 Sep 2019 23:32:20 (#17 of 68)

There are proper rednecks in parts of Sweden.

Delighted_User - 07 Sep 2019 04:38:27 (#18 of 68)

"I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you've never been to Sweden?"

This was intended to be the perspective of an American right-wing nutter, because, as I said, it was only that sort of site that seemed to carry the story, apart from the ES which obviously seems to have taken it from there:

the new brand is that this small Northern country, obsessed with atheism and political correctness, is now cooler than ever for re-setting all previously known boundaries of “noir.” And madness.

For an American of a certain type, Sweden = Sex, Suicide and Socialism, and of course all socialists are atheists. I don't make the rules.

SinnerBoy - 07 Sep 2019 05:42:32 (#19 of 68)

I did think that there was a trace of mockery...

quartus - 07 Sep 2019 09:24:31 (#20 of 68)

"nutter right-wing sites, which add comments to the effect of ..."

Seemed pretty clear that DU was citing someone else's comment.
