Anger as new Britbox service REFUSES to show classic British TV as it’s RACIST

BritBox, the new “best of British” streaming joint venture from the BBC and ITV, will not include classic homegrown series that are deemed to be inappropriate for modern audiences.

Hapless bosses have said a range of classic British shows, such as the BBC’s Till Death Us Do Part and ITV’s Love Thy Neighbour, will not appear on the service because of content deemed RACIST or otherwise unacceptable.

I would have bet my house on your thread title being "It Ain't Half Racist Mum".

Shadrack22 - 07 Nov 2019 19:28:42 (#2 of 89)

Will Mind Your Language be shown?

browserbutton - 07 Nov 2019 19:30:00 (#3 of 89)

I think it might be unwise to show some of those classic British comedies to FURIOUS BREXITEERS.

solomongursky - 07 Nov 2019 19:31:02 (#4 of 89)

Minder and The Sweeney have nasty racist remarks and they're on constantly on ITV4.

TRaney - 07 Nov 2019 19:39:05 (#5 of 89)

I don't think they should be suppressed. What is the fear, that weak minds will be turned?

solomongursky - 07 Nov 2019 19:39:49 (#6 of 89)

Speight said the joke was on racists but they still saw Garnett as a hero.

machiavelli - 07 Nov 2019 19:40:34 (#7 of 89)

Digital book burners.

TRaney - 07 Nov 2019 19:41:58 (#8 of 89)

but they still saw Garnett as a hero

But 'they' were already racists

returnofthepowermonkey - 07 Nov 2019 19:42:41 (#9 of 89)

I don't think there's any plans to burn anything, digitally or otherwise.

TRaney - 07 Nov 2019 19:45:02 (#10 of 89)

If Brexit tells us anything it's that our complacent assumption these people had changed their minds because they couldn't watch Alf any more was misplaced.

moto748 - 07 Nov 2019 19:52:46 (#11 of 89)

TDDUP screened from 1965 to 1975. That's a hell of a long time ago.

champagnerocker - 07 Nov 2019 19:53:58 (#12 of 89)

What they are not showing is crappy old tv shows that there is no real market for.

The article makes it clear that they will still be showing lots of actually classic British television some of which would still send woke guardianistas into fits of apoplexy.

TRaney - 07 Nov 2019 19:58:40 (#13 of 89)

They're not really showing anything in a sense that involves effort or priorities. They can make anything available that might have any kind of market. Is there really a bandwidth issue?

tasselhoff - 07 Nov 2019 19:59:43 (#14 of 89)

It certainly got them some free publicity.

carterbrandon - 07 Nov 2019 20:37:41 (#15 of 89)

Digital book burners.

Well they are called 'Kindles'.

machiavelli - 07 Nov 2019 20:47:57 (#16 of 89)

Heh!

TheVoiceOfReason - 07 Nov 2019 20:50:15 (#17 of 89)

How can you suggest that Mind Your Language isn’t a classic?

machiavelli - 07 Nov 2019 21:03:47 (#18 of 89)

My (African) ex loved it. No, she doesn't suffer from false consciousness.

lapsedcat - 07 Nov 2019 21:34:39 (#19 of 89)

My friends are preparing a four-part podcast special on Mind Your Language

StakludKar - 07 Nov 2019 22:09:10 (#20 of 89)

Line up a bit meh.

You'd think they'd do all eastenders episodes or something
