an 'offensive pile of down market chav bilge'

A BBC radio presenter is calling for Christmas classic Fairytale of New York to be banned from the airwaves.

DJ Alex Dyke ranted to listeners that he was “no longer comfortable” with having the "nasty" Pogues' festive hit on his playlist..."Radio, let’s ban Fairytale Of New York this Christmas!" he wrote. “'You’re a slut on junk, you scumbag, cheap lousy faggot' - is this what we want our kids singing in the back of the car?

In the three-minute long rant, he justified his decision to axe the song by saying he was “making a stand for the good of the people”.

He added: “I just think that this guy, this toothless drunk, ruining the romantic image of New York city with a song about heroin is not on.

“I don’t like the lyrics 'you’re bum, you’re a punk, you’re a slut on junk' - I think that’s absolutely awful.

There is nothing in the world more pompous than a local radio DJ.

It's always nice to hear Kirsty McColl's voice. Ask the children not to join in and spoil it.

During his phone-in show the DJ voiced that breastfeeding was “unnatural”

My kids used to sing the diarrhoea song.

FToNY would be an improvement.

Shane is not a chav, he went to public school.

DesEsseintes - 03 Dec 2019 15:26:59 (#9 of 139)

Will be quite proud of being called that. He finally made it.

Somebody that works for the BBC accusing somebody else of being down market tho. Pots and kettles or what.

Is Shane still alive? Always worth checking

Christmas is only ever nice. For everyone. Everywhere. Fun, clean, loving, toothful, laughing, loving families in nice, warm homes with plenty of food and lavish presents.

That's reality. Always.

Good to see that the spirit of Mary Whitehouse is alive and well.

He could always put Radio 3 on in the car.

Alex Dyke and BBC Radio Solent's 'Wall of Sound'. What have I been missing?

LemonGrass - 03 Dec 2019 15:39:01 (#15 of 139)

You're missing Martin and Shirlie Kemp. They're on now!

"DJ Alex Dyke"

I bet he plays a huge range of music. Everything from Chris Rhea to Chris de Burgh.
