Kumar said he had a warm reception at the start of his set at the Lord’s Taverners Christmas lunch, but that the audience quickly turned against him once he spoke about a number of issues including Brexit and Boris Johnson.

Ah Nish Kumar, or as Kumar himself described himself "the poor man's Romesh Ranganathan". Hes OK though he seems to think jokes are funnier if they're shouted.

once he spoke about a number of issues including Brexit and Boris Johnson.

Presumably the person who booked him has never seen him perform before.

I mean, who ever heard of a left wing comedian? In this day and age!

“If he is allowed to say that, why am I not allowed to say Boris Johnson said piccaninnies in a newspaper column? I don’t understand why all these things are not fair game.”

Its the Lords Taverners, dude.

He has complete freedom to say what he likes. Just as the audience is free to not laugh at his jokes and to boo him when he calls them racists.

Which Nish acknowledges.

Kumar said he was surprised by the reaction to his heckling. “I’m sort of amazed by how fascinated people are by the whole thing. It’s not the first time I’ve been booed off stage … I consider it, the life of being a comedian – they have a right to boo me.”

isn't the whole idea of these sort of gigs that you get someone who plays to the gallery and they do exactly that.

Its odd that neither party noted the mismatch.

Tenesmus - 03 Dec 2019 17:23:03 (#7 of 52)

Didn't the EDL unknowingly book a black DJ for one of their shindigs?

(I may be making this up)

FredDee - 03 Dec 2019 17:27:03 (#8 of 52)

Just be careful not to call them thick or racist.

AlanII - 03 Dec 2019 17:35:20 (#9 of 52)

Particularly if they are thick and racist, that's infringing on their human rights and worse than the Holocaust, which a lot of them are doubtful about ever having happened anyway.

Heh, that is quite funny actually.

Arjuna - 03 Dec 2019 18:19:41 (#12 of 52)

In the year of the Luis Suarez racism affair the PFA booked Reginald D Hunter for their awards night, perhaps they thought a black comedian would be a good idea but didn't realise that there is one word he uses rather a lot.

It must be disturbing to find out that you are less entertaining than Harry Rednapp.

An asian man gives his time for free for charity and rich white men throw food at him. Lords Taverners should be arrested and twatted.

Alternatively a comedian badly misjudges his audience and gets booed off. In further news a small tempest has appeared in a mug of tea....

RosyLovelady - 03 Dec 2019 19:02:38 (#16 of 52)

I expect the drunken rich white racist buffoons had a splendid time anyway.

AlanII - 03 Dec 2019 19:05:03 (#17 of 52)

It seems a far cry from when Willie Rushton was a prominent Lords Taverner.

lapsedcat - 03 Dec 2019 19:06:17 (#18 of 52)

Rushton would be a massive Leaver

darkhorse - 03 Dec 2019 19:08:10 (#19 of 52)

Tsk, it's just not cricket.

Oh, whoops. It is.

RosyLovelady - 03 Dec 2019 19:08:49 (#20 of 52)

Rushton's left.
