Reynhard Sinaga, Britains most prolific rapist?

I'm surprised this seems to have dropped out of national media so quickly.

Support services locally (Survivors and St Mary's) have struggled to cope with the sheer numbers of victims and the fact that most were unaware of the assault until police and support staff contacted them.

I do wonder whether that's a good idea.

TigerPaws - 08 Jan 2020 20:19:44 (#3 of 27)

They were assaulted but not injured.

The perp sees himself as some kind of warrier for the gay cause.

I think ethically it's the right thing to do. Imagine finding out any other way. The police would be condemned for not telling them.

The same points apply as with the more usual situation of female rape victims: rape is primarily about power and control. Nothing io do with any 'gay cause'. Whatever that is.

Yeah, I'm a bit confused by that. If it was actual rape (which requires penetration by the penis); then it would have had to either been orally or I'd have thought he'd have had to have pretty much held a bottle of amyl under their noses while they were out on GHB for there to have been no injuries. These were mostly straight men. Which almost makes it more sinister - he clearly knew what he had to do to avoid making them aware of what had happened at all.

Still it's absolutely shocking. Staggering number of victims.

mentranilvavin - 08 Jan 2020 23:05:25 (#9 of 27)

Horrendous. I guess the police had no choice other than to inform the victims, but they would've been so much better off never knowing.

Interesting that it's so easy to register for a pointless and endless PhD that no one gives a fuck about ...

Few problems for the media.First, a male rapist boning a drugged man is just not as titillating as a woman being Bill Cosbied.

Second, gay hetero-phobes are problematic for the media because they run counter to the currently accepted narrative.

Pinkgum - 09 Jan 2020 08:11:14 (#13 of 27)

As more victims come forward, it is feared that there will have been previous phones and assaults yet to be uncovered.

I"m unsure about the sexuality aspect. Rape is about power rather than sex.

Crayola - 09 Jan 2020 08:16:30 (#14 of 27)

One good (not good obviously) thing is that it helps with the narrative that rapists are weirdos that look dangerous. His non threatening appearance was what he used to gain trust. Rapists dont look like bogeymen

SinnerBoy - 09 Jan 2020 08:21:11 (#15 of 27)

Dottie, he went out looking for very drunk men, offered to put them up for the night, then fed them drugged drinks. It would have been easy for him to rape them anally.

A question which I know the police are concerned about is where are the bodies? Drugging more than 250 drunk people is liable to have caused a death or so.

Victims are still coming forward.

darkhorse - 25 Jan 2020 15:42:40 (#18 of 27)

The Guardian article seems to suggest possible doubt as to whether a significant amount of drugs were used, as he might have taken advantage of victims who were drunk and asleep

barkis - 25 Jan 2020 15:45:44 (#19 of 27)

I don't think the word "prolific" is appropriate. If you're prolific you're producing something.

Pinkgum - 25 Jan 2020 15:48:19 (#20 of 27)

Well he was producing victims. That's the term I've seen bandied about, not sure what would be more appropriate.
