Londoners are moving to Sheffield, Leeds and Newcastle, to escape the 'London madness'.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/feb/14/rising-tide-of-londoners-moving-to-northern-england

Cox, the founder of a male cancer charity who runs marathons in a giant testicle costume, quit London for Leeds with his partner three years ago. “My walking pace has changed,” he said. “Not swift brisk London pace any more. It’s a lot slower. The feeling that you are not getting ripped off is nice. Eating out is cheap. Curries are good. Ordering two beers and getting change from a £10 note is still an eye opener.”

Cox should have just moved to Kilburn if they wanted change from a £10 note for two beers.

Sheffield is lovely. Leeds and Newcastle are awful.

Quit, or did he get the sack?

I had a curry in Leeds. It was eye-bleedingly expensive.

Tinymcsmithy - 14 Feb 2020 19:00:45 (#4 of 74)

There are places other than London?

RosyLovelady - 14 Feb 2020 19:01:36 (#5 of 74)

There are, Tiny, but they're not nearly as good.

indlovubill - 14 Feb 2020 19:02:45 (#6 of 74)

Then let them go back there instead of coming up here taking our jobs

Away from zone 1 in London and there are lots of inexpensive good places to eat. If you really want a cheap beer, there are venues too - and if you find £3 too much, why not just stock some beers from Aldi and invite friends around?

It's the cost of accommodation that makes London expensive. If that's why you want to move away (and it's a good reason) then say so.

Who are your "they", Bill?

Tinymcsmithy - 14 Feb 2020 19:05:20 (#9 of 74)

I went to Leeds once.

It was different.

DesEsseintes - 14 Feb 2020 19:06:06 (#10 of 74)

Make your own curry, north or south, that is my advice.

Tinymcsmithy - 14 Feb 2020 19:07:32 (#11 of 74)

Too many home made curries have raisins in them. It’s wrong.

RosyLovelady - 14 Feb 2020 19:09:12 (#12 of 74)

I love the idea of Brexity northerners resenting soft southerners who move in, steal the women, and drive all the wages up. I suppose these post-Metropolitan interlopers get free housing too.

DesEsseintes - 14 Feb 2020 19:09:38 (#13 of 74)

Mine don't. Maybe if you were in the merchant navy.

DBD333 - 14 Feb 2020 19:10:30 (#14 of 74)

I found the London madness a bit much. I looked briefly at the wasteland beyond the North Circular and moved to Canada.

Tinymcsmithy - 14 Feb 2020 19:11:11 (#15 of 74)

I put vinegar in a curry the other day, for that vindaloo thing. It was good.

indlovubill - 14 Feb 2020 19:11:31 (#16 of 74)

Virtually free compared to what they sold their houses for daan saaf.

DesEsseintes - 14 Feb 2020 19:12:50 (#17 of 74)

The problem with Leeds, like Manchester, is it's like Londinium, anyway.

BBBilly - 14 Feb 2020 19:20:54 (#18 of 74)

Indeed. It has bathhouses, and some of the sewers are covered.

bossab2 - 14 Feb 2020 19:21:07 (#19 of 74)

There are bits of the South East which are dead quiet.

ChankNolen - 14 Feb 2020 19:24:57 (#20 of 74)

I like the way they managed to crop the picture of Sheffield Peace Gardens so as to exclude the dozen blokes laid out on Spice.
