Personally, I hope to see Clive Lewis in the cabinet so that he has a shot at the top spot next time around.

mingmong - 04 Apr 2020 16:14:20 (#2 of 27)

Yes!

Jacob_Richter - 04 Apr 2020 16:18:41 (#3 of 27)

The SC is going to be interesting.

Shouldn't this thread be titled The NEXT Jeremy Corbyn ?

col2001 - 04 Apr 2020 17:55:27 (#6 of 27)

It's interesting pondering the possible circumstances of a vacancy.

Natascha - 04 Apr 2020 18:12:04 (#7 of 27)

Events, dear boy. We have a post-covid election and Starmer loses. Starmer finds out that he hates being leader and the personal attacks that follow and stands down. Suffers some great personal tragedy and has to stand down.

Please note, I am not wishing that he stands down, but anything could happen.

col2001 - 04 Apr 2020 19:11:31 (#8 of 27)

Wouldn't he gets two goes, Nat?

mingmong - 04 Apr 2020 19:24:57 (#9 of 27)

The rulebook is unclear on that one. Miliband fell on his sword quite readily in 2015 as did Foot in1983, whereas both Kinnock and Corbyn continued to fight another election

It seems to depend a bit on the scale of the election defeat and the residual support among the membership and MPs

SinnerBoy - 04 Apr 2020 19:31:05 (#10 of 27)

Is it just me, or does that look like Morrissey, thinking about foreigners?

In XB's Twitter link....

Winner - 04 Apr 2020 19:50:07 (#11 of 27)

I think we can all agree it's generally considered good form to stand down after winning three elections.

kvelertak - 04 Apr 2020 19:54:25 (#12 of 27)

Starmer and Rayner, just what I'd hoped for. Best of luck to them.

DesEsseintes - 04 Apr 2020 21:44:57 (#13 of 27)

<nobody posts for hours>

See, nobody cares now.

Leaderless revolution, here we come.

Natascha - 05 Apr 2020 01:47:05 (#14 of 27)

Good. Let's let those of us who do care keep an eye on the SC appointments etc.

Ebadlun - 05 Apr 2020 01:54:27 (#15 of 27)

This thread might be a bit premature?

I mean, give him at least a day before speculating on his successor.

Tinymcsmithy - 05 Apr 2020 01:59:46 (#16 of 27)

STARMER OUT!

Ebadlun - 05 Apr 2020 02:04:19 (#17 of 27)

Well, it's been hours now, and the Tories still have an 80 seat majority.

xbod72 - 05 Apr 2020 13:22:50 (#18 of 27)

Terrible leadership. Need to get the right person to cough at the right 80.

DesEsseintes - 05 Apr 2020 14:19:01 (#19 of 27)

Why hasn't he stopped Brexit and Coronavirus yet?

xbod72 - 06 Apr 2020 16:25:13 (#20 of 27)

Ed Miliband is in the shadow cabinet. The business role.
