UK BLM Demonstrations

I am as appalled and shocked as anyone about the outrage which took place in Minneapolis. The death of any innocent person can never be acceptable.

How many innocent British lives will be lost from Covid 19 caused by those idiots in Britain protesting? The protest will have no effect whatsoever on racist attitudes, all it will achieve is a 'spike' in Covid infections undoing weeks of 'lockdown' hardship.

The authorities are going to say something like this every damn time from now on, I guess.

It's always risky going out onto the streets, one way or another. But people do, because they think it's important, because they think it's the right thing to do.

It's safer than going to work, anyway.

machiavelli - 07 Jun 2020 02:33:02 (#2 of 1844)

You can't nick Piers Corbyn but let mass demo organisers off. Either no one can protest, or everyone can.

DonkeyOT - 07 Jun 2020 08:20:28 (#3 of 1844)

And innocent Covid 19 sufferers will also be heard muttering "I can't breathe" before they too expire in deep distress.

Thanks to those knobheads who will take to the streets, some with honourable motives, and others intent solely on vandalism and looting especially if and when the nice weather returns.

I'm inclined to think that those hot-heads who initiate these demonstrations should think twice about the probable outcomes of their doubtless well-intentioned motives (?) and cotton-on to the fact that it is 100% certain that they will be hi-jacked by those intent upon vandalism and looting. We shall see, it's far from over yet of that I'm sure, there may well be water cannons and blood on our streets before we're finished.

It's more about universal unrest at the restrictions rather than genuine outrage against racial prejudice, for the great majority of them anyway doubtless there are a few with sincere motives.

RosyLovelady - 07 Jun 2020 08:53:24 (#4 of 1844)

I didn't know the "nice weather" had gone away.

Snarlygog - 07 Jun 2020 09:08:35 (#5 of 1844)

There were more masks worn at the protests than at the VE conga and general knees up. Bugger all making at Durdle door at Dorset.

Arjuna - 07 Jun 2020 09:12:36 (#6 of 1844)

It is ironic to claim ’lives matter' then risk spreading covid, we have had weeks of telling Dom and Boris that the rules apply to everyone and the same applies here.

Snarlygog - 07 Jun 2020 09:57:58 (#8 of 1844)

But then we have had Dom's Odyssey to the Northern, and the Isle of of Wight barbecue. Bet none of those were masked.

FleurDuMal - 07 Jun 2020 09:59:26 (#9 of 1844)

The government are saying it's safe for children to go back to school, safe for adults to go back to work, yet cry 'public health' when people protest?

More cynical manipulation by the Tories.

DonkeyOT - 07 Jun 2020 10:02:22 (#10 of 1844)

#4 - Rosy, bloody has in our neck of t'woods, hardly stopped raining since Friday - pissing down as I write!

Moschops - 07 Jun 2020 10:13:18 (#11 of 1844)

For anyone who cares to debase themselves, Nigel Farage is currently being racist on LBC

DonkeyOT - 07 Jun 2020 10:14:06 (#12 of 1844)

There's a surprise!

machiavelli - 07 Jun 2020 10:38:22 (#13 of 1844)

But then we have had Dom's Odyssey to the Northern, and the Isle of of Wight barbecue. Bet none of those were masked.

When you get this sort of thing, and scientific advisors having their girlfriends around, and unmasked fuzz surrounding a man filming what they're doing, you might be forgiven for thinking that the government and its servants don't believe that the virus is dangerous themselves. If they don't, why would anyone else.

bignosebignose - 07 Jun 2020 10:54:36 (#14 of 1844)

Snarlygog - 07 Jun 2020 10:57:19 (#15 of 1844)

Black shirts matter.

localhost - 07 Jun 2020 11:01:29 (#16 of 1844)

Ironic that protestors are castigated for not masking up. It used to be the other way round.

The demos in America are quite small scale, not sure why it's such a big deal in the UK.

Snarlygog - 07 Jun 2020 11:05:48 (#17 of 1844)

Legacy of Stop and search, general casual Bantz racism made OK by Keath Lemon, Little Britain et al?

DonkeyOT - 07 Jun 2020 11:06:53 (#18 of 1844)

And looting, obviously.

Snarlygog - 07 Jun 2020 11:12:42 (#19 of 1844)

Obviously, not. Whats the shopping like near Downing Street?

localhost - 07 Jun 2020 11:17:53 (#20 of 1844)

"Legacy of Stop and search, general casual Bantz racism made OK by Keath Lemon, Little Britain et al?"

Never heard of Keith Lemon, none of the protestors seem bothered by Little Britain. The protest is clearly about the killing of George Floyd in America.

The demo in London (thousands, according to Graun) was really quite big compared to in Washington (10,000) and larger other protests in the US.

I can't think of a comparable event where this has happened.
