Glasgow stabbing

There's been a major incident in the centre of Glasgow with 3 people stabbed to death and the culprit shot by police.

Not many details but it seems that it all occurred inside, or on the stairwell, of a hostel containing a lot of asylum-seekers who were living there under quite restrictive conditions. It sounds like it might have been somebody freaking out and attacking other people in the hostel.

The starting point for a perfect Daily Mail article there.

Fair point. I'm listening to radio coverage where there's been a bit of speculation about what happened but that's all it is right now.

I'm just gently pulling your leg. ;-)

There's a lot of knifey stuff about at the moment. <:-(

Initially thought the perp had killed two before being shot dead himself but that's being played down now.

The Italian restaurant across the road from the hotel, visible in all the TV pics, used to be our building society branch. Restaurant did a good lunch pre-Covid.

Note to Guigal - This one is NOT being treated as a terrorist incident.

Reporting in from Glasgow, I can confirm that someone is walking their dog and there are some seagulls.

I'm about a mile from the events so can't be much further help.

Thanks meep. Keep us informed, do.

TommyDGNR8 - 26 Jun 2020 18:10:07 (#9 of 50)

Especially about that migrant seagull. They bus them in every morning from Portobello, y'know.

In seriousness, though I will add that there has been a big rise in crime and disturbances here the past few days - there was a rape at mid-day a couple of days ago in the open on what would normally be a busy city centre st. A mass of teenagers also threw bottles at police in Kelvingrove yesterday which led to the whole area being evacuated, there is a weird air to the city still under lockdown but with ridiculous (for us) temperatures.

The city centre was deserted under earlier lockdown but these days seems to have become a magnet for troubled / dangerous people from around the city, most of us have been giving it a wide berth. It has a very strange atmosphere.

Sounds like a return to the 80s when we never knew which casual crew was around the next corner.

AdonisBlue - 26 Jun 2020 19:03:54 (#12 of 50)

I think it's similar everywhere. Lockdown is leading to lots of pent up aggression. Saw mass youth brawls in Exeter and South Wales on news. More people falling out with their neighbours too.

It's a shame, overall I've been quite proud of us as a species in the first few months of lockdown. We seem to have a four months fuse length.

This one is NOT being treated as a terrorist incident.

No. It seems to an asylum-seeker incident. Not unconnected, in that case, with our penchant for bombing Muslim countries.

Two people were stabbed to death in the one incident in Inverness at the end of May. Politicise that, if you will, Giggles.

Agree about the scariness of feral bands of drunks at this time of year, in hot weather, exacerbated by the unleashing of lockdown.

You do ramble aimlessly, Tartan Trews. Why would you think it an argument in favour of bombing Muslim countries that there are stabbings which are unrelated to British foreign policy and its consequences?

Your 'agreement' about 'feral bands of drunks' is an agreement with voices in your head, since nothing of the sort has been said in relation to the incident.

I'm sure that's exactly what he meant.

Getting strong vibes of ‘Lives alone in a basement’ from Guigal. He’s single, isn’t he?

Macpaddy - 26 Jun 2020 23:46:42 (#18 of 50)

Can't imagine he isn't.

Do 'feral drunks' also roam in your dim imagination?

Apart from displaying what you have in the way of wit, are you as frightened of Glaswegian drunks as Reverend? Maybe you can explain what they have to do with the stabbings in the Park Hotel.
