Call the Waaaaaaaaahmbulance.

Does a day go by where they don't look for something for their ridiculous ID politics to be outraged by?

no.

AdonisBlue - 08 Sep 2020 21:38:45 (#2 of 67)

More fake culture wars that will only benefit the right wing. The best thing to do is completely ignore them.

Us lefties are as guilty of ID politics as the right, probably more so. But the right have weaponised ID politics against the left with fake culture wars.

Pander to the bigots? Gordon Brown tried that.

AdonisBlue - 08 Sep 2020 21:54:08 (#4 of 67)

Worked for Brexit and the last election. Gordon Brown was just unelectable, didn't matter what he did. See also Michael Gove.

The best thing that could happen to labour in the UK now is for the Daily Mail to continue its campaign against Boris, leading to him being ousted and, hopefully, replaced by Gove.

But there's a risk he'll be replaced by Rishi who is very electable.

#4

Brown had very good ratings in his first year as PM.

machiavelli - 08 Sep 2020 22:54:03 (#6 of 67)

Why didn't they just turn over if they didn't like it?

Sunfish - 08 Sep 2020 23:38:50 (#7 of 67)

I think that was part of the dance.

guigal - 09 Sep 2020 00:58:38 (#8 of 67)

Is the definition of 'unelectable' somebody who is elected to Parliament, time after time, with a huge majority?

AlanII - 09 Sep 2020 05:54:23 (#9 of 67)

Worked for Brexit and the last election. Gordon Brown was just unelectable, didn't matter what he did. See also Michael Gove.

Brown alienated a whole swathe of his base (as did Milliband) though. Gove’s bigotry has nothing to do with his, as yet, unconsummated leadership ambitions being thwarted.

BGT doesn’t usually do political issues. Perhaps they could have “balanced” with a Brexit-inspired performance, where a troupe of British fish dart around the stage, escaping the dancers dressed as wicked EU trawlers.

TommyDGNR8 - 09 Sep 2020 06:59:18 (#11 of 67)

Eh? BGT's been awash with war-glorifying "patriotic" shite for the last three or four years.

darkhorse - 09 Sep 2020 07:01:22 (#12 of 67)

I admit I don’t watch BGT, so I assumed it was relatively apolitical like things I do watch, e.g. The Voice

In which case, clearly these complaining viewers approved of the young black people in the Diversity dance troupe when they were energetically singing and dancing, but expressing an opinion? Not so much.

KizzyK - 09 Sep 2020 07:03:25 (#14 of 67)

Well it looks like the snowflake twitterati got to this poll on it (you can still vote though)

Rule Britannia sung lustily by hooray henries: You must show this on the telly!

Dance performance inspired by BLM issue: You mustn’t show this on the telly!

machiavelli - 09 Sep 2020 07:18:07 (#16 of 67)

Perhaps they could have “balanced” with a Brexit-inspired performance, where a troupe of British fish dart around the stage, escaping the dancers dressed as wicked EU trawlers.

That gave me a genuine chuckle.

solomongursky - 09 Sep 2020 07:21:46 (#17 of 67)

I thought this was going to be the lesbian boxer on Strictly. She's awesome but I expect the same complainers will be hitting caps lock.

Arjuna - 09 Sep 2020 07:26:06 (#18 of 67)

What happened to all those happy dancing coloured folks on the Black and White Minstrel Show?

machiavelli - 09 Sep 2020 07:30:03 (#19 of 67)

I remember Gordon Brown was moved to comment on the Goody-Shetty row in the Big Brother house. I wonder if Johnson will weigh in on dancing controversies.

Tenesmus - 09 Sep 2020 07:37:01 (#20 of 67)

I misread that and thought the coronavirus is dancing now? It really has mutated.
