Are you a racist?

According to Ibram X. Kendi, author of How to Be an Anti-Racist, ‘the claim of “not racist” neutrality is a mask for racism’. Alana Lentin, author of Why Race Still Matters, takes it a step further, arguing that to be ‘not racist’ is ‘a form of discursive racist violence’. If you declare yourself not racist, it’s an unequivocal sign you’re an unrepentant white supremacist.

So there - if you're not racist you are doing 'discursive racist violence’ which is even worse than normal racism.

mingmong - 03 Dec 2020 15:52:52 (#2 of 752)

I take it you have read and studied these tomes, Rhodders

wickeltisch - 03 Dec 2020 16:04:37 (#3 of 752)

Who reads and studies tomes these days when all you need to know is on Twitter? Or some more or less obscure talkboards?

mingmong - 03 Dec 2020 16:07:19 (#4 of 752)

<glares owlishly at Wickles>

ReverendBlueJeans - 03 Dec 2020 16:08:55 (#5 of 752)

It's a fine word, though, tome.

Not that anyone under 45 has ever used it.

God, there is some truly cretinous stuff in print.

<<Not that anyone under 45 has ever used it.>>

those of us over 45 are more focused on the word 'tomb.'

ReverendBlueJeans - 03 Dec 2020 16:31:27 (#10 of 752)

Tell me about it...

wickeltisch - 03 Dec 2020 16:33:16 (#11 of 752)

So did Rhoda read the tomes or did she just copy and paste from The Spectator, forgetting the quotation marks?

thisonehasalittlehat - 03 Dec 2020 16:33:31 (#12 of 752)

Nobody gets a tomb these days. Not enough space.

thisonehasalittlehat - 03 Dec 2020 16:34:20 (#13 of 752)

The tomb's a fine and private place,

But none I think do there embrace

wickeltisch - 03 Dec 2020 16:34:38 (#14 of 752)

Have you never seen the walls of tombs in mediterranean countries, hatters? Tombs are stacked vertically.

AdonisBlue - 03 Dec 2020 16:35:06 (#15 of 752)

#8 She's an invader of Aboriginal Lands then.

thisonehasalittlehat - 03 Dec 2020 16:35:31 (#16 of 752)

But none I think to there embrace [except in Spain]

TheVoiceOfReason - 03 Dec 2020 16:37:02 (#17 of 752)

The thing is, all of these people will be out of a job if it’s ever proved that racism is on the decline or that most people generally tend to treat others well, so new forms such as discursive racist violence keep needing to be found. As (((Judge Judy))) always says, follow the money.

virgil5 - 03 Dec 2020 16:39:33 (#18 of 752)

RACIST? WHAT ABOUT RACIST RACIST?????

Well?

WELL?????

cozzer - 03 Dec 2020 16:40:12 (#19 of 752)
