G7 summit 11-13 June 2021 at Cornish seaside.

The UK, US, Germany, France, Canada, Italy and Japan make up the G7 and leaders from Australia, India, South Korea and the EU will also attend as guests.

More than 5,500 police will be on duty for the G7 summit in Cornwall and the popular St Ives railway branch line will be closed, it has been confirmed.

Roads in the area will also be closed, but police say they hope it will not be for longer than four days.

Will An Parti Kenethlegek Kernow protest?

I imagine they will be pleased with the world’s attention on Cornwall and the UK government’s funding for the summit, particularly the upgrades to Newquay airport.

The airport which will receive world leaders for this year's G7 summit has been given £7.8m for upgrades.

Council-owned Newquay Airport in Cornwall has been given government funding ahead of the summit in June .

A Cornwall Council report said the airport could not currently support "the needs of the aircraft types that will be arriving".

All the support needed, can arrive via the single branch line rail track or bimbke down the dual carriage way only from Exeter.

Joe Biden: "Ooh arr -- I love a pasty, me. Cornish ancestors see."

Might be useful if we get invaded by Putin.

"Ooh arr" is more Devonian .

Ch Supt Jim Pearce said: "We will be deploying over 5,500 officers and they will be in 100 accommodation bases."

Burglars, mark your diaries.

Are the Ruskies still persona non-grata?

browserbutton - 15 Apr 2021 12:00:20 (#9 of 274)

Well they certainly are in Cornwall, because it is believed there that Ruskies put clotted cream on their scones before the jam.

Smetana first, surely?

Police-approved protests will be some distance away from the G7 venue.

Four police-approved protests will take place in Devon and Cornwall when world leaders meet for the G7 Summit in June.

Demonstrations will be held in Plymouth, Exeter, Falmouth and Truro - with local authorities encouraging protesters not to gather in the Carbis Bay and St Ives area.

police-approved protests

now there's a contradiction in terms, now there's taking the piss

WibbleAgain - 13 May 2021 00:10:31 (#13 of 274)

I didn't know there was that much accommodation in Cornwall. 5,500 police, thousands of caterers, clearners, logistical support/admin staff, comms/PR/press officers, journalists... Are they all going to sleep in tents or what? Glamping on a gigantic scale? Thousands of portaloos? Water and showers flown in? All those private jets and everything. The local ecology is going to collapse.

beach huts, police cells, smugglers caves

At least the Russians have got some standards of decency then.

There's all the festival infrastructure that can be used. Loads of Live events crews just awaiting to spring into action.

Two of those are in Devon, not Cornwall. So basically they are so scared of protests that half of them will only be allowed in a different county?!

The two Cornwall ones are as far from St Ives as Central London is to Dartford.

Some of the police will be accommodated on a cruise ship.

About 1,000 police officers being drafted in to protect the G7 summit in Cornwall next month are to be accommodated on a 3,100-capacity cruise ship.

Sky News has learnt Devon and Cornwall Police has hired the MS Silja Europa, which has more than 1,150 passenger cabins.

The cruise ship, currently docked in Tallinn in Estonia, will be moored in Falmouth for 10 days and used by police for accommodation, catering and other "essential facilities".

HouseOfLametta - 17 May 2021 23:30:24 (#19 of 274)

Why don't they use one of the cuntpalaces that are currently sitting of the southwest coasts?

Verdigris - 17 May 2021 23:31:55 (#20 of 274)

There's loads of cruise ships parked in Torbay. Why bring one from Estonia? The Queen Mary II is there. Couldn't get more patriotic than that.
