In a moment of weakness, rather than eat the crisps, fruit & snickers bar I'd taken into work for my lunch I headed across to the canteen for Fish and Chips Friday. Battered pollock, according to the menu board.

bailliegillies - 04 Jun 2021 14:07:42 (#11 of 146)

Herring in rolled oats.

no chips

TheExcession - 04 Jun 2021 14:13:31 (#12 of 146)

Fish and Chips are never just 'alright'. They're either completely delicious or bloody awful.

To achieve the former they need to be fried in beef dripping as ani fule kno.

I also discovered that this is National Bike Week.

considers cycling along to the chippie

I skimmed this initially, and thought you'd taken your snickers bar across the road to be battered and fried.

Battered pollock

What would the Rev Spooner make of that?

solomongursky - 04 Jun 2021 14:43:33 (#16 of 146)

That Gray's Inn Road chippy uses ground but oil and the chips are lovely and day and fluffy.

Tylenol - 04 Jun 2021 14:45:46 (#17 of 146)

ground but oil

Tasty

LemonGrass - 04 Jun 2021 14:49:41 (#18 of 146)

solomongursky - 04 Jun 2021 14:54:24 (#19 of 146)

Yep

AdonisBlue - 04 Jun 2021 14:54:54 (#20 of 146)

You may have better weather, economy, restaurants etc etc in That London but northern fish n chips generally are vastly superior to southern nonsense.

Skin left on fish (yuck) cod instead of haddock (wrong) no mushy peas (wtaf?!) No cheese and onion pies, no gravy, soggy chips, gooey heavy raw batter.

7 years of this when living in That London put me off fish n chips for years. Now it's lightly battered haddock heaven everyday for breakfast.
