First!

binturong - 06 Jul 2021 10:44:08 (#2 of 3754)

<Buckles in, dons crash helmet. And mask.>

Verdigris - 06 Jul 2021 10:50:55 (#3 of 3754)

I'm going to an exhibition in a couple of weeks. I've just received an email from the organisers asking me to vote on mask wearing - wear, don't wear, don't care?

I'm not in any great danger myself, being Prescotted, but I'm inclined to vote "wear" just to stick it to the man!

FleurDuMal - 06 Jul 2021 10:57:44 (#4 of 3754)

There was a scientist on TV this morning, saying that basically, the UK is going to be one great big experiment. We've gone ahead very well with the jabs, now all restrictions are going to be removed, to see if it works.

thisonehasalittlehat - 06 Jul 2021 10:58:14 (#5 of 3754)

Yup.

FrankieTeardrop - 06 Jul 2021 11:03:35 (#6 of 3754)

All very good depending on how "it works" is defined

Tomnoddy - 06 Jul 2021 10:04:36 (#7 of 3754)

Gonna be like Israel, prolly.

thisonehasalittlehat - 06 Jul 2021 11:10:25 (#8 of 3754)

There's one significant difference. The UK has predominantly used AZ, and Israel has used Pfizer. The latter is much more effective against delta than the former, it appears.

HorstVogel - 06 Jul 2021 11:13:02 (#9 of 3754)

The latter is much more effective against delta than the former, it appears. c

are you sure? - according to today's n-tv.de effectiveness of Biontech/Phizer has dropped to 64% due to COVID19-Delta

limegreen - 06 Jul 2021 11:14:09 (#10 of 3754)

What are the latest figures on prevention of infection, serious illness, death and long Covid by the different jabs? I can't keeps up. I keep seeing AZ isn't as good, but I also see that it keeps building immunity over time. Yep, I got AZ.

thisonehasalittlehat - 06 Jul 2021 11:15:31 (#11 of 3754)

I was so close to slotting in "fuckers" after the mods final post on the last thread.

Am annoyed.

CarlosFandango - 06 Jul 2021 11:18:25 (#12 of 3754)

You'll live.

Tomnoddy - 06 Jul 2021 10:19:08 (#13 of 3754)

Don't let us stop you now, hatters.

FleurDuMal - 06 Jul 2021 11:19:30 (#14 of 3754)

Chill, man.

thisonehasalittlehat - 06 Jul 2021 11:19:42 (#15 of 3754)

Fuckers!

ReverendBlueJeans - 06 Jul 2021 11:20:03 (#16 of 3754)

Jolly good. That's both big and clever.

Tomnoddy - 06 Jul 2021 10:20:17 (#17 of 3754)

If Pfizer is so much better, then we'll be back on restrictions in five days.

thisonehasalittlehat - 06 Jul 2021 11:20:22 (#18 of 3754)

Thank you.

thisonehasalittlehat - 06 Jul 2021 11:21:48 (#19 of 3754)

Two weeks after the second dose, the differences in vaccine effectiveness by variant were more modest, with the Pfizer/BioNTech jab offering 88% protection against symptomatic disease with the Delta variant, compared with 94% protection against the Alpha variant. For the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, the figures were 67% and 74% respectively.

Guardian. Although I think there's been some update on this that Bint drew attention to a few days ago.

machiavelli - 06 Jul 2021 11:24:04 (#20 of 3754)

I'm an AZ jabee. I think I'll avoid the madness of crowds for a while though.
