I'm sorry but you've just lost any moral leadership you might claim to have had in the world. If you tolerate this, your country deserves to go down the toilet.

Is it complete non-comprehension? Or just stupidity?

cozzer - 31 Jan 2018 21:46:53 (#2 of 36)

I think most people have you down for the latter.

raymie - 31 Jan 2018 21:46:59 (#3 of 36)

If you don’t know that about yourself, nobody else can answer it for you

barkis - 31 Jan 2018 22:01:31 (#4 of 36)

So if you lose your job you also lose your right to healthcare? Aren't Christian politicians wonderful!

emorobot - 01 Feb 2018 00:32:11 (#5 of 36)

No, its worse than that. People using public healthcare will have to go on some sort of workfare scheme to qualify. Because, you know, slavery is technically illegal so this is a way around the law. Like with Angola Penitentiary and all the other labour camps the US operates...

I dramatically agree that this is totally stupid. but forgive me: it trivializes actual slavery to say that this is what the new nonsense involves.

as best I can tell, this makes people work for benefits. I have no idea what exemptions are available to those who can't work, or can't find work. but otherwise, it says you have a choice: work, or medicaid expansion (for those with some income) doesn't apply.

I doubt that the rule applies to many. in any event, it does offer a choice. slavery did not.

Sounds like a great idea for employers. Havethe taxpayer pay for work that they’d have to pay for otherwise.

HouseOfLametta - 01 Feb 2018 06:58:33 (#9 of 36)

Actual slavery shouldn’t be trivialised. It’s what happens to NHS doctors every day.

"work" involves getting paid a salary and enjoying the holiday and other benefits specified under whatever employment legislation applies.

This is not "work" as in "a job", its work for no pay unless I have misunderstood. emo is nearer the mark with his description than calling it "work" without explaining that it isn't really a job. Crass exploitation, and a downward drag on pay levels at the bottom due to putting free labout into the picture to attract employers away from proper employment.

Brunothecat - 01 Feb 2018 09:51:42 (#11 of 36)

Its probably American "christians" who have made islam such a popular choice these days, if this is the sort of thing their political faction come up with.

brooklyn - 01 Feb 2018 10:31:06 (#12 of 36)

no, bruno, even kentucky won't make you work for no pay. you work for pay. or you get job training, education, do community service, or some other things. for those, I suppose there's no pay. but if you work, youi get paid like anyone else.

and I think the new rules apply only to those who are eligible only because of Obamacare's expansion of medicaid. those people have more income than the old medicaid recipients, and probably mostly are working already.

this sucks, but there's no need to misunderstand the requirement to show that.

It's SLAVERY I tells ya!

AdrianNTierney - 01 Feb 2018 18:28:39 (#14 of 36)

Slavery? To ask people able to work to actually do so to receive public benefits?

Really?

In reality, it's a make-work scheme for state public employees and not much more.

brooklyn - 01 Feb 2018 18:30:04 (#15 of 36)

<<It's SLAVERY I tells ya!>>

that might better fit the workers Trump doesn't pay. or, as noted below, those he pays peanuts to.

I don't know, those seem like typical wages for the described jobs. Maybe they should unionize!

AdrianNTierney - 01 Feb 2018 19:29:41 (#17 of 36)

Of course they should "unionize".

After all, those unions need the dues and fees far more than those underpaid workers. Right?

Healthcare, actually.

................ I have no idea what exemptions are available to those who can't work, or can't find work.

That's right, you have no idea - but you're willing to give the party of White supremacy a pass, anyway.

....................but otherwise, it says you have a choice: work, or medicaid expansion (for those with some income) doesn't apply.

Work, or die of a preventable disease.

I doubt that the rule applies to many.

if you "doubt" it even applies to many, why do you think they love it so much?

............................in any event, it does offer a choice. slavery did not.

It certainly did: Work, or die.

Oh well. Whatever helps you sleep at night, comrade.

Geribaldi - 02 Feb 2018 02:12:12 (#19 of 36)

You need more bold to make your hysteria more je ne sais quoi silly ...
