The Court of the Crimson King...

Well, in his own mind, anyway...

Cats foot, iron claw....

Policywatcher - 24 Feb 2020 21:07:55 (#2 of 1257)

I had this on the backburner for a while... just as a thought.

Then the other day in about 15 minutes it all came together:

His close advisers come and go

A strange revolving door

A city full of closest friends

He’s never seen before

He tweets out every quarter hour

It never means a thing

Three rants a day in broken tongue

For the court of the crimson king

The keeper of the nation’s wealth

Puts shutters on the DREAMS

I watch as men go through the door

With plans for pointless schemes

A wall to keep a border white

A tax on imported things

A cage to hold the needful young

At the whim of the crimson king

He dances with the Eastern prince

Whilst desperate for his prize

He knows he cares not for the poor

Though they all fall for his lies

The press announcer plays her tune

On Fox the show begins

His chants repeated mindlessly

For the court of the crimson king

On soft grey mornings widows cry

To the fool it is just a joke

As we all read the clearest signs

He cries that it’s all a hoax

The Moscow jester does not play

But gently knots the strings

And smiles and smiles as his puppets dance

In the court of the crimson king

Nice poetry, but it should be Orange King, which still scans. I have to admit the alliteration is better with Crimson King.

Policywatcher - 24 Feb 2020 21:23:34 (#4 of 1257)

I perhaps made the mistake of listening to the original as I wrote it.

Garden - 24 Feb 2020 21:28:41 (#5 of 1257)

Okay, where is this from? What is the original?

Policywatcher - 24 Feb 2020 21:34:13 (#6 of 1257)

Ah. My age must be showing.

"In the Court of the Crimson King"

Performed by King Crimson...

A global thing in '69 and the early '70s.

Nice work, thanks PW.

I have the start of a storyboard for a set of images to accompany it as a video.

What I need is a band to perform it with the new lyrics.

Cordelia - 24 Feb 2020 21:42:58 (#9 of 1257)

That’s cracking. And I now have a grand earworm.

So daily to his ham boiled face

The nation's eyes were locked

He blustered, puckered, spluttered

Crowed, to every value mock

His coward "court", in hostage held,

Devolved from day to day

There was none in the land they loved

Who dared to have their say

As soon their once proud house of law

Became a global joke

Its people slept in dreamless chains

While pacing in their yoke

Would none appear to break the curse

And let the children sing?

The Darkness deepened nightly

In the Kort of the KKKrimson "king".

Setting aside the musical interlude, though retaining the hope that he will eventually face the music...

Policywatcher - 24 Feb 2020 23:05:38 (#12 of 1257)

And someone should explain to him that "Person of the Year", like Nobel Peace Prize, isn't just awarded for being President.

Perhaps if he tried to do something constructive to earn it.

Garden - 24 Feb 2020 23:59:48 (#13 of 1257)

Sorry, PW, I'm travelling and can't listen on this pad. A tiny bit young for King Crimson...

I'm seeing on Twitter that Lord Dampnut is putting Ken Cuccinnelli, bigot of Virginia, in charge of Coronavirus control. Cage 'em up Cooch may have limited success.

Tr*mp also seems to be counting on stock market gains for victory in November. We'll see how that goes after another 1,000 point drops or six.

Confusion will be his epitaph.... the very least.

BuddhaPest - 25 Feb 2020 18:46:44 (#17 of 1257)

Let's hope he will end up walking a sad and lonely path ... that endless solitary slog around the prison courtyard

Trump to Supremes: "Agree with me or recuse yourselves"

21st century schizoid man.

Has John Roberts made a statement yet, or is he just going to allow his Court to be diminished.
