Will Marxists end up taking power in the USA?

Many young Americans support Marxism, as well as Antifa and BLM. They’re fed up with American crony capitalism, jobs being sent overseas and no prospects even if they finish university. Will America end up becoming a Marxist country?

With any luck, it won't be as boneheadedly neoliberal as it has been and actually consider tax rises and investment.

But Marxism? That's a response to a particular 19th Century set of conditions that doesn't make much sense nowadays.

Also, supporting Antifa literally just means you oppose fascism. And supporting BLM means you're against black people dying needlessly. Neither are Marxist positions.

You MustardMitt it is an unlikely prospect.

Yes. Absolutely guaranteed.

Groucho is cool, but is he cool enough to give up our iPhones?

If course they won't. But maybe they also won't be as insanely right wing as their parents

Steve Bannon called Trump “My Lenin”.

The 6 Jan storming of the Winter Palace was wildly successful.

Now Trump is back. He’s rallying his troops for a second attack which will sweep away the Biden czarists, ushering in a new Proletariat dictatorship of red hat-ism. Idaho will be famous for its “re-education” camps.

<<But maybe they also won't be as insanely right wing as their parents>>

that's what pundits foolishly thought when the right-wing parents were teens.

adulthood has a way of making you lose your idealism. happily, I find that senescence helps you find it again.

Yup don't mistake the age old pattern of young people being left wing and becoming right wing as they age for change.

Today's young are marching for antifa or BLM. The boomers were marching against Vietnam and the cold war. Then they grew old and put Trump in power.

brooklyn - 02 Jul 2021 14:21:04 (#12 of 61)

and of course, some people are born cheering for the trumps and never change. there's no hope for them. right, AB?

AdonisBlue - 02 Jul 2021 14:29:01 (#13 of 61)

I have no opinion on that Bear Trap. I'm merely stating that young people being left wing is normal and does not mean the USA is going Marxist.

Isn't this just a feature of America's Phoney Culture Wars (PCW) -- the ultra-right headbangers labelling EVERYONE ELSE as 'Marxists', ffs.

AdonisBlue - 02 Jul 2021 15:01:45 (#15 of 61)

Don't they call them socialists or liberals? I do think there is a hardcore of ageing Marxists who obstinately refuse to accept the 20th century showed it doesn't work (cue them to step in and say no country adopted 'true' Marxism in the 20th Century). Corbyn was sort of backed by them in the UK, who then motivated the young, temporary, left wingers but not enough.

Lots of naive young people lean left. Then they experience the real world and become sensible.

FredDee - 03 Jul 2021 15:24:28 (#19 of 61)

the old ones are the best.

Brooklyn - "yes. they lean farther left."

Only when they are lazy and determined to live off the public dole. The main motivation of most leftists.
